Impact Resistant Shingles from your Sherman TX Roofing Company

Home insurance isn’t cheap, especially in Texas and other states that are hard hit with hail and strong storms every year.  Texas ranks number 1 in the U.S. for the number of hail storms each year.  We live in a geographic zone that can produce massive thunder and hail ridden storms.  The Gulf moisture that pumps up to our area, and meets the descending mountain cool air can explode into tornados, hail storms, and torrential rains.  Mix in the rapid temperature changes that Texas gets, and you have the ingredients for some seriously damaging weather.  Texas officials estimate that up to 40 percent of all homeowners insurance claims result from hail damage.

Having said all that, there are Impact Resistant shingles available which can better withstand a hail storm and strong wing compared to regular architectural shingles.  These shingles are stronger and more flexible than standard shingles.  The rubber-like quality prevents hail from fracturing the fiberglass mat, eliminating premature deterioration.  I.R. shingles are classified as UL 2218 or Class 4 in terms of impact resistance, which is the highest level that insurance companies use to rate shingles. Having I.R. shingles installed on your roofing system will save you money on your home insurance premiums, and you will have a roof that will last a lot longer than a typical shingle.  Most Impact Resistant shingles come with a 30-50 year limited product warranty, and 10-year coverage against algae growth.  The added flexibility of these shingles also makes them more wind resistant, and most have wind resistance limited warranties that generally cover winds between 100 and 130 mph.

We have installed several impact resistant Sherman TX roofing systems that withstood the hail storms we experienced last year in the North Texas area.  If you are interested in learning more about your options in Sherman roofing materials that are made to better withstand hail storms, call Alpine Roofing Construction at 972-957-7011.  We can show you samples and explain more about the benefits of I.R. products.

Hail Damage to your Roof | Dallas Roofing

The North Texas area was widely hit by hail and strong storms in 2011.  Roofs of all types were compromised, and in need of replacement.  Thousands of home and business owners in the Dallas area have had their roofs replaced due to hail damage, and their insurance has covered the cost.  However, there are a lot of homes and commercial buildings that still have hail damage, but have yet to have their roofs replaced.  The process is extremely easy, and with the help of an experienced Dallas roofing company, you can have a new roof in a few weeks! It is important to take advantage of this opportunity to have your roof replaced for little or no cost to you!

If your roof was hit by hail, and you have not had it replaced yet, you are putting the interior of your residence or business at risk to being damaged by future storms. Hailstones pound down on your roof causing damage to your roofing system, which makes it less effective in protecting the structure underneath it.  When a roof has suffered damage from a hail storm, this will most likely lead to a leak in your roofing system.

If you are unsure if your roof has been damaged by one of the several 2011 hailstorms to come through the Dallas area, our roofing professionals can help you determine if you have suffered enough damage to qualify for an insurance claim, and assist you in the next steps you will need to take in dealing with your insurance company!

Some insurance companies do have limitations on the time frame for filing a claim after your roof has sustained damage, so it is important to have your roof evaluated by a professional as soon as possible.  Alpine Roofing Construction provides free Dallas roofing estimates, and have helped thousands of customers over the past year through the insurance claim process.  Give us a call at 214-528-9897.

Energy Efficient Roofing from your Rowlett Roofing Company

Americans spend about $40 billion annually to air condition buildings (1/6) of all electricity generated in this country). Energy Star® qualified roof products reflect more of the sun’s rays.  This can lower roof surface temperature by up to 100 degrees, significantly decreasing the amount of heat transferred into a building.

Energy Star® qualified roof products can help reduce the amount of air conditioning needed in buildings, and can reduce peak cooling demand by 10-15 percent.  During building design and when your existing roof needs replacement are both excellent times to consider a more energy efficient roofing system.  Do your research, and find a reputable Rowlett roofing company of your choice who is knowledgeable about more efficient roofing systems to assist you in the process of choosing the roofing system right for you.

Metal Roofs – Consider metal roofing, metal roofs are more energy efficient than shingles.  Metal does not have the kind of heat-absorption qualities that shingles have, so it will radiate less heat in your home and attic spaces, making your air conditioning have to run less.

TPO Roofs – The white TPO roofing membrane used on flat roofing systems typically has a reflectivity rating in the high 80% range when installed, and after three years still maintains a rating in the low 80% range.  A TPO roof is a great option for a commercial roofing system.

“Cool Shingles” – Utilizing a highly reflective granule technology that reflects or essentially bounces back the sun’s rays, Cool Shingles help keep roof temperatures cooler, resulting in a much more comfortable living space below.

These are just a few of the many energy efficient roofing options for your home or business.  If you are interested in learning more about “green” roofing, click here to watch our video, or give us a call at 214-528-9897 and we can meet with you to discuss your options, we give free estimates!  We are a trusted Rowlett roofing company who has been around for over a decade.

Radiant Barrier Installation from your Mckinney TX Roofing Company

Summer will be here before you know it!  As you know, Texas summers can be more than brutal, and make your energy bills go through the roof.  Radiant barriers are installed in homes, usually in attics, primarily to reduce summer heat gain, which help significantly lower cooling costs.

At Alpine Roofing Construction, we use a highly reflective foil that is applied to the underside of your roof rafters.  This foil is designed to reduce the amount of heat that is able to penetrate into your attic during the summer, and can even keep heat in during the winter.  This will consequently lower your heating and cooling costs up to 50%, making it an investment that will pay for itself.  (Radiant barrier pays for itself within 4 ½ years of installation)  Not only will it lower your energy costs, there are also tax credits available for installing this foil in your attic.

When the sun heats your roof, it is primarily the sun’s radiant energy that makes the roof hot, and a large portion of this heat travels through the roofing materials into your attic.  Radiant barrier foil is a durable, three ply aluminum foil product that blocks 97% of the sun’s radiant heat.  This will maintain uniform temperature throughout your home, and cause your air conditioning to run around 1/3 of the normal operating time.

Proper installation of a radiant barrier in coordination with the insulation and attic ventilation is critical.  When all of these systems are properly installed by an Alpine Roofing Construction radiant barrier expert, you will see all the results stated above.

We will work with you individually to make your home more energy efficient, and help you get the energy savings results you are looking for.  If you are interested in McKinney TX radiant barrier services, please contact us at 214-528-9897 for a free estimate!

Make Sure these Items are Addressed During your Roof Replacement | Farmers Branch Roofing

If it is time for your roof to be replaced, make sure that your job is done right! Make sure that the Farmers Branch roofing company you choose is going to use the following steps in your roof replacement.  The existing roof covering, whether it is shingles, slate, tile, etc. should be removed down to the plywood decking.  Most manufactures will void their warranty if your replacement shingles are installed over any existing roofing materials.

Remove Old Flashing

Existing flashings should be removed.  Damage and rotten wood could be hiding under your old flashing.  If left in place, damaged wood could cause future structural problems.

Remove Felt / Replace Damaged Plywood

The old felt under your shingles needs to be completely removed, so your plywood decking can be properly inspected.  Damaged or rotten wood will need to be replaced.  If rotten plywood is not replaced, your roof could leak soon after installation.

Install New Felt Underlayment

A new 15 or 30 lb felt underlayment should be installed prior to installing new shingles or roof materials.

Replace Pipe Boots

The pipe boots and pipe stacks and other various protrusions throughout the roofing area should be replaced.  These kinds of pipe stacks age over time, and installing new ones will complete the look of your new roof.

Quality Roof Replacement Materials

Choosing a quality shingle to extend the lifespan of your roofing system is important.  We are certified applicators of most major shingle brands, so choose one of your liking, or we can recommend the best quality materials!

When you choose the Farmers Branch TX roofing company of your choice, just make sure they are thorough in their processes.  A company, who just proposes to replace the shingles, and not the other roofing components, is not the roofing company you want to choose!  Call Alpine Roofing Construction at 972-957-7011 for a free estimate, we are extremely thorough and reliable!

The Top 5 Mistakes in Purchasing a New Roof | Carrollton Roofing

1.  Price is your only concern.

The price of a roof repair or replacement can vary greatly.  If you shop around, and find a company whose price is way below the other bids that you got, there may be a reason why.  Remember, you get what you pay for! Check to make sure that this company is offering to do the same scope of work that the other companies were.  Are there any hidden costs in their bid?  Make sure there will not be any surprise costs that sneak up on you when the project is completed.  Check to make sure that this company has insurance.  If a roofing company does not carry insurance, they will probably be able to offer you a lower price than their competition, but you do not want them on your roof without having the proper insurance protection!  Make sure to find a company with a competitive price, who is qualified to do the work.

2. Basing your choice on the company who responded the quickest or can start immediately.

If a company is at your house within an hour of your call, it is a sign that they do not have very much business.  Check the local BBB or reviews on Google to see if other customers have had a satisfactory experience with the company.

3. Companies who use high-pressure sales tactics.

If a sales person is trying to make you sign their contract immediately, or make a rushed/quick decision, this is a red flag!  You should be given time to look over their proposal without them standing in your living room.  Don’t fall for any high-pressure sales tactics, like a “lower price if you sign today.”  Take your time, you are making a large purchase that can greatly affect the integrity of your home!

4. A deal that seems too good to be true, probably is!

Check on the quality of materials the company you choose is using, make sure they are using top of the line products, and that you aren’t just getting a lower price because they are using second tier products.  What is their warranty?  Alpine Roofing Construction offers a standard 5 year warranty on any roof that we replace, and we wouldn’t suggest accepting much less.  Again, make sure you read the fine print, and that there won’t be any hidden costs that will sneak up on you after the work is complete.  Most importantly, make sure this company has references, ask for 3-5, so you can chat with recent customers about their level of performance.

5. Using a contractor who works out of their truck.

In Texas, roofing contractors are not required to have a license.  This means there is no shortage of roofing companies who are working out of their truck.  We suggest finding a company with an office staff. (Even if it is a small staff.)  A reputable company will have a staff who answers the phones, or can answer any billing questions you might have.  If you call a contractor, and you can tell he is answering the phone on a job site, be aware of what you might be getting yourself into!

Remember, purchasing a roof is a big decision, so treat it like one!  Do your research, and find a reputable Carrollton Roofing Company that you can trust will do the job right.  Call us at 972-957-7011 for a free estimate!

Good Ways to Tell if is Time to Replace your Roof | Lewisville Roofing

A lot of homeowners do not know when they should replace the asphalt shingle roof on their house.  If you’re asking yourself this question, you may already be dealing with roof issues, or your roof may be really old and you suspect it may be time.  Other than a leak, most people do not know what kind of issues to look for.

If your shingles are experiencing any of the following symptoms, it may be time to call a Lewisville Roofing Company to evaluate your roofing system for replacement!

  • Curling
  • Hail/Wind Damage
  • Delamination
  • Granule Loss

Curling Shingles

Shingles that have deteriorated will sometimes curl upwards, and no longer lay flat against the roof deck.  Curling can happen over the years as your shingles lose granules.  If you notice that your shingles are curled upwards, your roof is in need of replacement.  Your shingles have lost their ability to guard your house from water.  If water begins to leak into your attic, it can cause extensive interior damage to your attic, insulation, and drywall.  You may even develop mold from water saturating an area for an extended period of time, possibly without your knowledge.

Hail/Wind Damage

Hail damage is another big reason to get your roof replaced.  Hail impacts can create rivets into the shingles and vent coverings, which can greatly affect the integrity of your roofing system.  Hail damage is covered by most insurance policies, so if you have experienced hail at your home, you should contact your insurance company.  If you’ve experienced wind damage, you may be able to see on your roof where areas of shingles have blown up, or are missing.  If you see shingles that have been uplifted, this will eventually turn into a leak.  So, we recommend getting this evaluated as soon as possible.

Delamination

Shingles that are delaminating can look as if they are crumbling.  You may find large chunks of shingles and granules in your yard or gutters.  Delamination is normally a result of aging shingles.  Sun and heat can dry the roof shingle out, and make it more brittle.

Granule Loss

Although granule loss is normal over the lifespan of your roofing system, if your roof gets to a point where it has lost more granules than it has left.  It is probably time to consider replacement!

Take a quick look at your roof, walk around the perimeter of your house.  If you think it may be experiencing any of the above items, call a reputable Lewisville TX roofing company to come check it out for you!  Call Alpine Roofing Construction at 972-957-7011 for a free estimate!
